Accessibility Plan Annual Progress Report - June 1, 2025
XPO Logistics Freight Canada Inc. (“XPO”) is one of the largest providers of asset-based less-than-truckload freight transportation in North America, with coverage that spans the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
XPO is committed to the realization of a Canada without barriers. As such, we have adopted our Accessibility Plan as part of a proactive approach to identify, remove, and prevent barriers faced by persons with disabilities when they interact with our organization, whether as employees, job applicants, or customers.
In accordance with Accessible Canada Regulations (SOR/2021-241), the following update describes progress made over the past year to address barriers and the areas of opportunity that XPO identified as part of our 2023-2026 Accessibility Plan.
Employment:
-
XPO deployed discrimination, harassment and retaliation training for all our Canadian employees.
-
XPO conducted our annual engagement survey and will continue to do so in the future to gather feedback directly from employees.
-
XPO has opted to develop “Better Together” teams in each of our locations in lieu of relaunching ERGs. These teams are focused on recognizing and celebrating diversity as well as providing socialization opportunities, giving feedback to leadership as well as organizing volunteer opportunities. This decision was made, in part, due to the challenges of organizing ERGs in an environment primarily consisting of hourly workers without regular access to XPO’s systems. This model also allows the programs to be customized to meet the needs and interests of employees at each of our sites.
Built Environment:
- Any time an XPO facility is renovated, we comply with all standards and building codes.
- To improve safety and accessibility, XPO regularly grades our unpaved service center and shop yards to address potholes and rutting.
- In our Scarborough, Ontario service center, stair railings were added to improve accessibility between the dock and the lower level and restroom.
- At our Mississauga, Ontario service center, we added dock bumpers and shelters to shield our employees from weather and extreme temperatures.
Information and Communication Technologies
XPO has implemented the following best practices to ensure greater accessibility to our internal websites:
- Structuring the site with HTML tags and placing text content in paragraphs, headers and lists to aid in the functionality of screen readers
- Confirming that the site can be navigated with the keyboard
- Providing ways to add alternate and title text to images
- Avoiding low contrast scenarios when possible
- Hosting most of our videos on YouTube, which provides closed captions
- Use of sans-serif font to improve readability
Communication other than ICT:
As part of our efforts to remove barriers in the workplace, XPO shares important information and business updates in a variety of formats including written materials, videos, photos, graphics and in-person meetings.
These efforts to ensure accessibility include:
- Ensuring closed captioning is included on video communications, where possible
- Ensuring French, Spanish and French-Canadian translations of key communications are included at the time of message distribution
- Identifying a new platform to replace our current internal social media platform. This platform offers auto-translation capabilities so users can select their preferred language, is keyboard navigable for employees with motor disabilities, and is screen reader compatible. This platform will be available to wired employees in the US, Canada, India, and Europe in June 2025.
Procurement of goods, services and Facilities
XPO will continue to review current procurement directives, policies, and practices to incorporate accessibility considerations. XPO will also continue auditing the inventory of current goods and services and enquire about the accessibility practices and services of current suppliers.
